On Sunday, September 15th, over 700 people attended the Corsica River Day hosted on the grounds of the Corsica River Yacht Club. The free, annual event is part of the educational outreach of the Corsica River Conservancy to celebrate the river and demonstrate how the entire community can get involved to restore and protect it. The Conservancy partnered with the County’s Department of Parks and Recreation and the Yacht Club and was supported by exhibitors from a number of county, state, and local organizations. The event provided information on actions that individuals can take to help restore and maintain a clean and healthy river and watershed. For the 14th year, and 4th held at the Yacht Club, volunteers developed and staffed exhibits that demonstrated how residents could improve water quality and river habitats, advocate for responsible development, contribute to oyster restoration, plant trees and native flowers, and construct rain gardens. Master Gardeners distributed free perennial plants that had been supplied by the Conservancy. Family activities were both fun and educational. Washington College provided a boat and a Master Naturalist led tours of Emory Creek. Other activities included kayaking, the Phillips Wharf Fishmobile, Scales and Tales, fishing, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, and pumpkin art and educational activities. .The “Passport to Restoration,” which was filled out by participants, was a fun way to learn about various nature-related topics Food and drink was supplied by local businesses and Blue Octane provided the music. The Conservancy would like to thank all those who attended and especially those who volunteered their time and effort. Mark your calendars now for September 20, 2020 to help us celebrate one of the defining features of our landscape..
