Bay Bridge Crossing Public Comments Due October 14

Decisions about the future of transportation between Maryland’s Eastern and Western shores will have significant consequences for residents of Queen Anne’s County. The federal review of alternatives required by the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) identified building a third bay bridge span crossing between Anne Arundel and Queen Anne’s Counties as the preferred alternative under its Tier 1 study. Many have spoken out against the analysis that supported the decision, citing flaws in the underlying assumptions. One example is the submission by the Queen Anne’s Conservation Association, which can be found at https://qaca.org/press-release-%26-archives. Another was filed by the Anne Arundel County Executive, found here https://www.aacounty.org/departments/county-executive/forms-and-publications/Anne-Arundel-County-Bay-Bridge-Study-Comment.pdf

Three Tier 2 NEPA Study Open Houses – one virtual and two in-person meetings – one in Queen Anne’s County and one in Anne Arundel County – were held in September. A recording of the virtual Open House is available here. The Open House presentation materials are online here.

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is accepting public comments on the Tier 2 study that are submitted by Friday, October 14, 2022..
